Annabelle came in with those in the morning. I love that she not only gave me and ipod--but specifically an ipod touch. Everyone needs a child with an imagination like hers.

OH . .. and she also gave Beck a laptop.

Patch #2

Remember last year when I had to patch jeans? Well I patched them super cute with printed fabric. Trouble is, that one of my daughters plays hard at recess and those too got holes in them. Fastforward to this year. It's the end of the year, and I just got a call from her teacher letting me know that she has come to school for 3 days straight with holes in her jeans. (who friggin cares? it's the end of the year, I bet all of the kids with high waters aren't getting phone calls). But whatever, rules are rules. So I got together with my friend Julia. And we patched. This time I cut up an old pair of jeans and used that denim to make patches. Still turned out cute. Not as cute as fun prints, but still cute.

Want to makes some of your own? Here's how:

Get some Ultra Heat n'Bond. You can get it at a fabric store. It's usually prepackaged.

Get an old pair of jeans.

Get cookie cutters for shapes.

Take a big section of the jeans and follow the instructions on the heat n'bond to get it to stick to the denim.

Then trace your cookie cutters, then cut out the shape.

Iron it on to the hole in pants.

Then take some embroidery thread and do a whip stitch around the edge, or a straight stitch on the inside. I used colorful ones one some, and cream colored on others.

And then if you do this . . .

you may not get a call from the teacher.

***note*** I am so glad my daughter goes to a school where she doesn't get made fun of for this. In fact her friends thought it was pretty cool.

Striking

I took this shot because when I saw it, it struck me how distinctly different their hair colors were. I've always wanted to set up a picture of them from behind, but just never got around to it. Seriously--how cool is it that their hair is all so different.

**Note to Trent M. --I DO NOT dye their hair.

Husbanda and Cameras

I'm not sure if I posted this here or on my photo blog. But I said that all mothers should own a good camera and learn how to use it. I would like to follow that up with: and a husband that knows how to use it. Because I L.O.V.E. this shot.

The shot

I've been taking a picture a day all year. We were cleaning the yard and it was super hot. Annabelle said, "I know a great picture for today"

So this is what she came up with:

Flickr abducted me

My friends keep asking me why I haven't posted about this or that, and I think . . .didn't I? Then I realize that I posted stuff on flickr. I joined a group of my photographer friends in doing a picture a day. I started mid January and have been going strong since. So that explains why this has been a bit neglected. So I thought I'd share some of what has happened. My flickr account is private, but if anyone wants to see it, let me know and I'll add you as a flickr friend--but I'm not that good at flickr yet, so it might take me a while. So here goes:

All the money in the world

Have you ever thought that there is NO way you could have been a pioneer, with all the crap they had to put up with? ME too, until these girls. It started out as a bunco group, and now we just do whatever we want to once a month. And these girls are more than once a month friends. It's more like once in a lifetime. Sound cheesy I know. But seriously. I would walk across the plains with these girls and probably enjoy it. For reals--the coolest girls on the planet. We've been together for 7 years and not ONCE have we had a tiff of any sort. Except the time when Marlo and Lenor were pissed at each other for a couple of months ( .. . uncomfortable) but they are sisters and are allowed to do that. We just had a bunco overnight and it was THERAPY. It was like getting a dose of some good medication that makes life seem easier and the stress just melt away. These girls are the hit. Who else would attempt a cartwheel in their mid-thirties??

Did we bring blow up mattresses to our hotel? Um, heck yes. We did a lot of other things too, but I don't think I'm allowed to share.

xoxoxo to MOlly for hooking us up with this adventure

Crap Pile

I have wood floors and since I don't really have to worry about any carpet gettting crusty from spills and crumbs I pretty much let the kids snack anywhere they want. And I let them take their toys all over the house. I am NOT an uptight house cleaner. I wish I were. I just let them play and spread their funk everywhere. Then when I can't take it anymore, I take a broom and sweep EVERYTHING into a crap pile. Clothes, books, crumbs, sippy cups etc. etc. I don't stop to pick up anything. So then all of the things that need to be picked up are in one location. Then I tell the kids that I have a crap pile and if there is anything they want to save from the trash they better go get it. And they do. Then I sweep the rest into my dust pan and throw it away.

It has simplified my cleaning process. And it doesn't feel as overwhelming to the kids to clean up.

Cic--I know you are probably dry heaving at the fact that I have this much crap to sweep up.

What 1 year old could resist the chocolatey temptation of Land O' Lakes triple chocolate hot chocolate, while mom was busy?

Certainly not this one.
