I was shopping at Trader Joes and a young twenty something store employee stopped me, "Mam", she said, (Mam?? is she really talking to me? mam??) "where did you get your cardigan?" (now that's more like it) "LOFT" I answer. And she stares blankly--"you know, Ann Taylor's LOFT?" Still blank. So I instruct her where to find a store, and move along. So I have found my niche-my choice of caridigan color-still cool, my choice of store to purchase it at--only cool to those of us "Mams".

Perspective on the Federal Budget
I hear the word trillion and my mind gets fuzzy. And I wish someone could put the federal debt into terms I would understand--like compare it to my household budget.
And of course, genius Dave Ramsey did.
READ THE ARTICLE.
On Aprils Fools day they Dave Ramsey show tweeted that he'd been hired by the government to deal with the debt crisis.

Sounds of a Tuesday night
As I'm in my bedroom folding clothes:
Josie "(singing) . .. lay me down on a bed of roses--take me to the river at dawn. . . "
Annabelle: "That was great! You are going to VEGAS!!!)
Kizzy comes running into my room. "Mom, mom--if we do great we get to go to Regas!" **hopping up and down and tugging my shirt** "That is a place where we go and have LOTS of friends"

Conversation
On the way home from the kid's music concert we stopped at our Favorite Lenny's Burgers for 60 cent ice cream cones:
***Click**
Josie: "Mom hold my ice cream cone while I click my seat belt . .. . DON'T EAT IT."
Me: "Ok. I won't."
***Click**
Me: "Here you go Jos"
Josie: "Did you eat it?"
Me: "No. I just kept it from dripping."
Annabelle: "Josie--that means she ate it."

That Day
PAYCHECK.
Hyrum got his first paycheck on Friday. So do you know what we did?
I got gas--A FULL TANK--which to some of you may seem like not a big deal. But my suburban has a HUGE tank. It takes so much gas that the gas pump automatically shuts off at $75. So I got $115 worth of gas. Exciting right?
AND THEN
I paid our bills--ALL OF THEM--some even a week ahead of the due date. Exciting right?
AND THEN
I got gas for Hyrum's car. And when I went to look at my bank account--i didn't apprehensively peek through my fingers. There was STILL money there.
SO
We went on a date. Not a dessert date in which we share $5 ice cream. A sit down to dinner date. And I ordered whatever I wanted. And it was delish--you should all check out Lolo's chicken and waffles. The collard greens were yummy.
AND THEN THE NEXT DAY
We payed our tithing--two paychecks worth. And it felt good. Real good. (**note-we always paid our tithing--we have a huge testimony on the blessings of tithing--it was just awesome to have so much to pay)
AND
We put money aside to take each of our parents out to dinner, and WE PAY. Wow I feel like an Adult. (which seems lame from my 35 year old mouth)
AND THEN TODAY
I bought tickets to this:
I read this to the older girls last summer and they LOVED IT. We love plays but rarely get to go to them because tickets are usually $15-$30. But $10. I can do that--occasionally--and especially for a play that the girls know the book. If you are not on Groupon yet--sign up--there are fantastic deals. And if you are going to sign up then CLICK HERE WITH THIS LINK It hooks me up with $10 whenever you make your first purchase. Just sign up--it's great.
SO
I know most people would go on a shopping spree or a major vacation. In fact at work, people asked Hyrum what he was going to blow his first paycheck on. And we laughed--because paying our bills--and having some left over--is way more of a high than blowing money on bullcrap.
Isn't that fantastic?

Get the work done day
Tomorrow being Saturday I thought I'd list two events that will help you to get crap out of your house, and a task crossed off your list.
The first:
You can donate your computer. I have two laying around our house that I'm stoked to get rid of. Go here for location all around the Metropolitan area.
#2:
Mesa's Hazardous Waste collection day. I have had this giant bucket of paint that the last homeowners left here (over 3 years ago) and an old car battery. I'm stoked to get that crap out of my garage. Go HERE for details.

Political Circle
I heard once that politics is a circle. That although the media loves to pit left against right--it it more of a circle, and there comes a point there the left and right connect and would agree on things.
I think this video--is that connection. Maybe not in the nitty gritty details--but I think this makes sense to both sides.

We're Screwed
It's been a long time since I've been political. My brother send me stuff all the time--sometimes I read it sometime I don't. But this has been on my mind lately. I have been hearing all around he media about how the rich are such horrible money hiding jerks. And how if we just take their money-the problems would be solved.
I'm not rich--nor will I ever be. But guess what--the rich are rich because someone along the line worked their butts off and sacrificed their time and family to get them there. It's their money--they deserve to keep it. Should they be taxed fairly? Yes. We all should--including the poor. Therefore we are all contributing members of society.
And the rich can't save us from an overspending government that is too huge to sustain. By the way I am so sick of the buzz word sustain--it irks me second only to the words "go green".
If you have time--then watch this. It opened my eyes to two things. #1 The rich can't save us. #2 We're Totally Screwed.
Watch the video HERE
There is also another one--it's short and is pretty funny--and eye opening

Living in L.A.
I have a friend whose husband is possibly being transferred to a the military base in L.A. They won't live on the base so she was wondering where they should look for housing? She'll have young ones starting school next year.
So some place that is not too long of a commute--but can be a bit away.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or know anyone out there who can?
Lurkers weigh in--if you can help in any way.
Thanks!
