Return Phone Call

Dear Dr. Moms

Ok--he's been on breathing treatment and meds. He still has some yuck going on--flemmy spit up and such. And then his breathing sounds good, and then it sounds bad. Sometime I think it sounds crackly--which Crazymama said was bad. But I can't tell if it's crackly or flemy. And I can't tell if it's in his lungs or his airway. And that comes and goes. Then I have no idea how to check if his chest is having a hard time breathing. I have no idea what he looks like when he's breathing normal. He's happy, he's sleeping fairly well, he's eating, peeing, pooping. But on occasion he's weezy, but only for a while.

What to do? Someone who can spot it come over and check. I think if we had insurance we'd take him to the ER just to check. But we don't and I'm working on that, but until then . . .

I wouldn't worry about it. If it is not constant, then it's not as serious. When you look at his chest, you will actually see it sink inward when he inhales.

Go with your gut, I bet he will be fine!

P.S. I worry about everything, so for me to say not to worry about it is HUGE!

Is this all new? Lili was diagnosed with trachea malatia at her 2 month check-up. They thought she might have had it earlier but we figured it out for sure at that point. I know he's a little older than that but it kind-of sounds like the same thing. Everyone thinks she has pneumonia or something....but it's just because of her skin in her esophagus. Anyhow....you may want to google it and see if any of the symptoms are what Beck has. Lili is also has reflux issues that go along with it now....so fun! I hope he gets better soon!

okay....so I am still learning all about it but here is a site that I have found helps a little bit and gives some info on it (and is spelled correctly!:)

If his stuff is coming and going....that sounds just like Lili and when she is sick it's sooo much worse. Hope this helps....at least you can rule it out if it isn't it! :)

ok i think he's probably fine. if he's eating and sleeping normally, that is great.

comes and goes is normal.
if it gets better with the breathing treatments. it's working. the bronchioles(spelling?) need the medicine to help them open up. and work right.

Liberty had this a few times. and was never hospitalized for it.

i could come check him out for you if you want.
if you are super worried about it.

but i think it's probably happening when he is almost due for his next treatments? watch and take note if that is the case.

my kids always had the skin on their necks suck in really far, and they seemed to struggle to get a deep breath. over and over. it would suck in really far under their ribs too. not when crying or fussing, just when they were resting. compare it to another baby or kid.

after a long time of not getting enough air they would get extra tired (lethargic)

really with the bronchiolitis it should run it's course with the breathing treatments. and antibiotics from the ear infection. it will take more than a week to see real results. IMO.

know anyone with a stethescope that knows what to listen for? good breath sounds?

I know I am jumping in this a bit late....

My daughter had RSV when she was 3 months old and was very sick and hospitalized from it and still has breathing problems and Asthma from those days, Not good!

Some of the advice of humidifiers and warm air...made my daughter worse I do not recomend that at all. She was very mucusy and threw up the slime alot, for her it was the choking and mucus that were making here very ill. Her chest did not cave in like some have said? Her coloring was bad & she sounded terrible. So not all kids re-act the same depending on the age? Patting his chest as much as possible will help break up some of the mucus

The warm air and humidifier are best for babies with a dry croopy cough...it did not help her at all! Respritory stuff is scary, I am much more worried about things like that now having a very sick baby can do that to ya! GOOD LUCK WITH THAT POOR LITTLE GUY:)
