I need to know if things at my house are normal or abnormal.
Our menu this week so far is:
Monday:
Fish, Rice, Zuchinni
Tuesday:
Baked Ziti, salad
Wednesday:
Pillow chicken (pastry filled with chkn mixture) Steamed brocolli, sliced cucumbers
Thursday:
Vegeterian Enchiladas, corn, salad
Friday:
Barbecued Beef Sandwiches, homemade coleslaw
So, does everyone have a full dinner meal plan like this? Well, mostly, do people eat full dinners every night of the week? I told Hyrum that sometimes people just have sandwiches. He thought that idea was ABSURD. Who would do that? .. I believe was his response.
So I told him he was a brat. And he knows that.
Oh, AND, I'm not allowed to make stuff with Ricotta. Because "It's just gross".
So. Set him or me straight. I don't expect bias.

You are too funny. I don't make "fun" food unless Micah is gone {ahem, this week and last week} and then we have done cereal, sandwiches, chicken nuggets....the works! But with Micah home I cook "real" food....since I feel like as a wife I should. Not because he asks me too....I just want too. So, I have to side with Hy on this one....that yep, we eat a full menu and we even plan it out every week and then go shopping to get all the stuff {I do believe YOU taught me that one! :)}
Nah. I used to try meal planning like that and found it to be ULTRA frustrating what with "spontaneous" activities popping up, etc.
Now we have a GREAT meal schedule that makes my life way easier.
We cook MON, WED, FRI, SUN
And eat leftovers (or just free for all form the fridge if there aren't leftovers) on TUE, THUR, SAT.
This way I'm not cooking EVERY DAY. And we're not throwing spoiled food away. And I'm not cooking on our "BUSY" nights. I also will try to make bigger portions on cooking days (double batches, etc) to help with the leftover situation.
Tell Hyrum sandwiches are perfectly acceptable... especially on his homemade bread! ;)
WISHING I were that good.
Lately I stink, but we are going to call that a YUCKY pregnancy.
We have bean burritos or breakfast at least once a week and call it fancy.
:)
HY should appreciate you A TON.
But I must admit I'd be more interested in cooking if I were home full time. I'm tired after working all morning.
I also make dinner each night. I grew up eating cheese crisps or cereal for dinner...but my hubby also thinks its "absurd" if I dont cook a "meal". I actually love it..but on occasion when life gets crazy we do the burritos or leftovers very rarely..my family is picky!
I think it was the way of our family growing up that a hot dinner with two vegetables was requried. I've always done the full meal thing until this year. It suddenly got so hard. I still try to make a full meal three times a week, but I'm just too overwhelmed lately. Don't know what changed. I love the full meal, and the kids love it too and eat better. I need to get back to it.
I want a guest post on Hyrum's fish and chips w/ recipe!
My rule is a FULL meal at least 4 times a week. Other nights would include BLT's, breakfast for dinner, and takeout once a week (usually Tuesdays). I always make my menu ahead, or else it is really hard to accomplish. Sometimes I have to start dinner in the morning...
I might be stealing a few of your menu items.
And Ricotta is NOT gross. Trust me, maybe he needs a courtesy bite. (At our house everyone HAS to take a courtesy bits of everything I make, if they don't like it, they don't have to finish it, but at least they tried it.)
Ricotta is almost it's own food group at my house.
I am in the same boat as Kristy. I shoot for 4-5 nights a week. Sometimes I do it, sometimes I don't, and sometimes I make it for 7 nights. Once the kids started getting more involved in things, it started to get harder.
Ricotta rocks.
In my defense:
I actually make, not a majority, but a significant portion of the meals at out house. In fact, in the comments of this post my bread and my fish and chips (from scratch) were mentioned, I planned and made the grilled Tuna steaks, rice and zucchini last night and pioneered the baked ziti.
As far as the ricotta is concerned, I think we just need to try a different brand. Suggestions?
It's official. I'm a kitchen failure.
um yeah. sometimes we just have ramen. or just pb and j. or just mac and cheese. no sides. no veggies. lucky to be getting dinner at all here. i've trained everyone to expect nothing and they thank me profusely when this is the meal they get. Jill is right.
which makes me feel like....raise your hand if you suck as a mom. (raising her hand)
other times i raise the bar. and do extra meal prep. plan ahead have side dishes and dessert and my family asks. "who is coming to dinner?"
they always say thank you though. to mom and to dad. because that's how we roll.
try makin' your own ricotta!
I like the brand that Sam's Club carries. But it comes in a 3 pound container. Which I totally use. Maybe next time I will share with you. Also there is a place in Scottsdale called Androlini's that rocks. They make their own. And the most amazing pistachio cream cake. So you could try theirs too.
yes, I do that almost every night. though I don't plan it out, I just decide that day. I too, tell my husband - "Some husbands come home and just eat cereal! because their wives don't make dinner all the time, see how good you've got it?" and he was incredulous.
I think ricotta is gross too, I sub cottage cheese which I love.
