Calling Dr. Moms

Beck has been sick for weeks. I took him in about two weeks ago and the Dr. said he sounded find just flemmy from nasal drainage. Well it comes and goes. But now he has a little wheeze. I'm taking him in today--mostly because we only have insurance until tomorrow. So question is---does this sound familiar to anyone? What is RSV like? What should I be looking for or ask his Dr.?

He also has bumpy eczema on his face and stomach. He's had it for longer than he's had the sickness but I"m wondering if all of this could be an allergy? Or Asthma or something?

He coughs until he gags and/or spits up. Mucusy stringy spit up. (yum). But it's not an all day cough, just on and off.

Give me what you got.

When Andy had RSV, you could see his chest going in & out while he breathed. Plus he looked like death. The exzema is probably just from the dry weather. During the months of October - February I have to cake my kids with vaseline to keep their skin ok. Milk allergies can show up as flem and wheezing. Call me & I'll tell you some things that I have found to work!

So sorry to hear you are having to deal with this. My daughter has a cough that lasts (on and off) from December through February. She was given a diagnosis of allergy-induced asthma...only has symptoms in the winter. It is annoying for her, but not bad enough to require an inhaler. We use a lot of Vicks Vapor Rub and a humidifier to help.

Also, all 3 of my kids and I have extremely dry skin. My son's is so bad his cheeks and knuckles crack/bleed. I found some cream called RexEme. I can only find it online, but it works. A midwest farmer suggested it. I actually use it and Vaseline...works wonders for us.

I hope you find the answers you need and that your cutie is on the mend very soon!

Sorry, me again...the bumps you mentioned...my kids have them on their legs and arms too. You can't see them as much as feel them. The RexEme has helped that as well.

Gus was like that his first winter. After numerous trips to the doctor I decided that it was just allergies. I made him sleep and nap in his car seat and that made him a lot more comfortable and gave me peace of mind. Also do the Vicks on the feet thing, it really does work.

I've also heard that the vicks on the feet thing works wonders. When Morganne was little she had the same problems. She was diagnosed with asthma. I noticed when Morganne should be breathing out she would cough. That's asthma. It's on the breath out, not in. Also, exzema can sometimes be linked with asthma. At least it was with Morganne.

Good luck. It is never fun to have a sick kid.

what did the dr. say?

i'm weighing in kind of late.

look for fevers over 104. and coughing/puking mucus.
the side of neck sucking in really far, and under the ribs when breathing. for pneumonia/RSV?brochiolitis.

wheezing throat/mouth noise is ok, crackles in the chest not ok.
put your ear to his back to check. stethoscope is even better.

watch for listless, no appetite, and fever together. NOT GOOD.

if he's eating ok he should be good.

sleeping in carseat or swing is good
with a humidifier in the room.

steamy hot shower running while he sits in the room does the same thing. it's good for a croupy cough.

spitting up some snot is ok. did they give you a cough syrup for him or a nebulizer?
